Taggart Award for
Algonquin Students

The Taggart Group is committed to supporting education and opportunity for Indigenous youth in the communities where we live and work.

The Taggart Award for Algonquin Students provides financial support to Algonquin students pursuing post-secondary education, skilled trades training, or apprenticeship programs in Canada.

This award is available to students from the 10 Algonquin communities represented by the Algonquins of Ontario (AOO). The program is designed to help remove financial barriers and recognize students who are working to build a strong future for themselves and their communities.

Award Details

  • Value: Up to $3,000 per recipient
  • Number of awards: Up to 12 annually (subject to applications)
  • Eligible programs: College, university, technical training, or apprenticeship programs in Canada
  • Eligible applicants: Students of Algonquin heritage from any of the following communities:
    • Antoine
    • Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation
    • Bonnechere
    • Greater Golden Lake
    • Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini (Bancroft)
    • Mattawa/North Bay
    • Ottawa
    • Shabot Obaadjiwan (Sharbot Lake)
    • Snimikobi (Ardoch)
    • Whitney and Area

Selection Criteria

The award is intended to support students who demonstrate:

  • Financial need
  • Commitment to education and career development
  • Connection to and contribution within their community
  • Academic effort and progress

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • Completed application form
  • Transcript or letter from a teacher / academic reference
  • Confirmation of enrollment in a post-secondary program

Application Timeline

Applications open annually on May 15th and close on June 30th.

Successful applicants will be notified in August, with funding issued directly to the student.
