Taggart Parkes Foundation Supports The Ottawa Hospital
The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) has earned an international reputation for leadership in cancer research. From unmatched expertise in oncolytic viruses to revolutionizing the clinical trials process, TOH is working hard to transform every aspect of cancer care.
Over the next 15 years, Canadians will see a 40 percent increase in cancer diagnoses with almost one in two developing cancer in their lifetime. The Ottawa Hospital’s ability to translate research into patient therapies coupled with one of the best-equipped cancer centres in the country means we are well-positioned to face the challenge ahead.
Since 1983, The Ottawa Hospital has been fortunate to receive funding from the Taggart Group of Companies and the Taggart Parkes Foundation in support of a variety of projects.
The Taggart Family Waiting Room, in honour of Judy Taggart, is in a very special place within The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. The Psychosocial Oncology Program plays a critical role in caring for cancer patients and their families, as the cancer journey is not just physical, but deeply personal and emotional. Thousands of patients and their families spend time in the Taggart Family Waiting Room each year as they seek guidance from our dedicated team, whether in one-on-one sessions or in group settings.
In 2018, the Taggart Parkes Foundation made a remarkable commitment to transforming cancer care at The Ottawa Hospital with a $1.5 million dollar investment in cancer research. This funding will enable the establishment of an Ovarian Cancer Research Chair, support a PhD post doc fellowship, and fund clinical trials at The Ottawa Hospital. Dedicated to awareness and education, a Taggart Parkes Cancer Lecture will also be established through this transformational gift, available to all cancer patients and community members.
Beyond cancer research, we are grateful to have benefitted from the Taggart Parkes family’s support on a number of projects such as the Critical Care Wing at the General Campus, the Dermatology Centre, a Cyberknife purchase, the new Breast Health Centre, and with corporate support and participation in THE RIDE, an annual cycling fundraiser. The Taggart Parkes family continues to embody the spirit of philanthropy by supporting the advancement of patient care and research at The Ottawa Hospital.
